Mountaineering may be an exhausting and unconventional pastime for most, but for some adventurist, mountaineers, as well as nature lovers it said to be a “lifetime ticket to the theater of nature”. That fun and satisfaction were always a blend of eco-cultural exploration and modern day thrills and adventures.

Sanchez peak is located at Sitio balakayo, Barangay Olympog. One of the tourist destination for mountaineer and outdoor enthusiast in gensan. It is more or less 800pa. 1hr walk for seasoned climber, 2hrs for beginners. Sanchez peak is owned by Mr and Mrs Jun Sanchez. The first settler of the land are Blaans and it was given to the father of uncle Jun as a gift of friendship. At the back of Sanchez peak is where Amsikung seven falls can be seen. The boundary of Gensan, Polomolok and Malandag. Sanchez peak is opened to the public last 2010 as tourist destination in Gensan. And since then many people came and witness it beauty.

One of the few rural barangays in General Santos whose economy is primarily farming and other agricultural works. Residents here are very cordial and friendly; they will greet you with their signature, genuine Filipino smiles if ever you cross paths with them. Great for all outdoor enthusiasts, backpackers, mountaineers, trail runners or just a seasoned climber.

Streams of pristine water rushing down a mountain cliff covered wholly in green makes for a stunning image, and the judges of a national photography contest held in 2012 in the Philippines clearly thought so too. They awarded a photo of the Asik-Asik waterfalls in the mountainous Alamada region, and in doing so, announced the existence of this natural wonder to the world.

The picture went viral on social media, and Filipinos were stunned by this discovery. The beautiful falls had been unknown to the public for a remarkably long time; the residents of the nearby village of Sitio Dulao had only come across the site two years earlier, after a series of floods and forest fires destroyed a significant chunk of the forest that was hiding it.
The newfound oasis was christened Asik-Asik, meaning “sprinkle-sprinkle” in the local Hiligaynon language, after the sprinkle of falling water on nearby rocks. Lush vegetation covers the entirety of the ravine, and adds mystery as to where the water is coming from. The most likely sources are thought to be springs deep within the mountain or an underground river.
Getting to the falls is not as daunting as it used to be, after the government, sensing a wonderful tourism opportunity, developed the roads and site around it. But there are still descending and ascending treks on stairs that wind around the mountain side. A tiny portion of the falls can be seen from the top, but as you descend, the full majesty of water gushing from the green mountainside slowly reveals itself in all its glory.

Welcoming the sunrise at Kalon Barak.

Pine Trees at Kalon Barak.

A rainbow at Kalon Barak.

You will allured by the 360-degree view of Kalon Barak. On a sunny day, you’ll get to see the peak of Mt. Matutum, Mt. Apo, Mt. Parker and endless mountain ranges of Sarangani Province. And if you get lucky, a rainbow may appear and get to see it closer.

Being an elevated area with 2,677 feet, wind breeze continues to give you chills much more at night until the break of dawn. Reimagining how the three in a hammock just below the old house of the mayor of Malungon , it was one of the coldest night.
At early morning, the place was covered with fogs slowly disappearing as the sun rays start to meet the grounds despite the thick clouds. You will witness the beautiful sunrise on your visit. Sea of clouds are also exciting and equally magical, but it’s not happening every day.
Noticeably, the pine trees which serves as the landmark of Kalon Barak Skyline Ridge are undoubtedly a knockout for most visitors. You could sit and relax on the bench while watching it dance as it breeze. There are benches available where picnic goers and campers can sit comfortably while enjoying the good view.
